My 9 month living experience at the Sarlahi Dream Catcher Children Center was absolutely amazing. It feels like everything was a dream, and I am afraid to wake up and find myself on my bed in my apartment in Korea.
In Korea, I was told that the children have gone through difficult past, so I imagined that most children would not speak much and have hard time socializing with others.
However, I was very surprised to find out how cheerful and lively these kids are. They were smiley, loved taking photos and playing in the field, independent and responsible, and very caring of others. I have come here to take care of them, but I feel like the opposite. They taught me Nepali dance moves, helped me lift heavy baskets upstairs full of water, entertained me by sharing interesting stories and singing, preparing tea and snacks for me, taking care of me whenever I was sick and simply being there with me and listening to my words.
In addition, the center was well equipped and was managed very well. Thanks to all the volunteers and generous donations from Korea, these children had a beautiful study room, office supplies and teachers to assist their studies. I feel grateful that so many people have contributed for this center. Also, I am happy that these children do appreciate all of these and they always talk about helping others in need when they adults.
Although I may forget few Nepali vocabularies or the Nepali dance moves, I will never forget their faces and the love that these children have given me. I am certain that I will always cherish all the memories wherever I am. Sarlahi became my 3rd hometown. I wish to visit here again in the near future and wish all my best for their happiness and their bright future.
